How to Use Safety Work Gloves in Construction

Jul 26, 2024

1. Choose the right gloves
Material selection:
Leather: Provides excellent protection against slips, scratches, and punctures.
Rubber or acrylic: Provides chemical resistance if you are handling hazardous materials.
Kevlar or cut-resistant fiber: Provides additional protection against sharp objects.
Size and fit:
Choose gloves that fit well but not too tight. They should allow you to move your fingers comfortably and grip tools securely.

2. Inspect gloves before use
Check for damage:
Look for any signs of wear, such as holes, rips, or thin areas.
Make sure all seams and stitching are intact.

Ensure cleanliness: Keep gloves clean of debris that may cause discomfort and reduce protection.

3. Put on gloves
Proper technique:
Put your fingers into the glove and pull it over your hand to put it on.
Make sure your fingers are properly aligned and the glove is pulled up to cover your wrist completely.
Adjust for comfort:
Adjust any straps or fasteners to ensure a secure and protective fit.
Make sure the gloves do not restrict movement or cause discomfort.

4. Use gloves while working
Grip and dexterity:
When we wear safety gloves, we can firmly grasp the tools and objects we need.
Ensure that we can perform work tasks that require fine motor skills, such as carrying screws or operating machinery.

Protection:
Wear gloves when handling sharp objects, rough materials or operating heavy machinery.
Be aware of the limitations of gloves and avoid using them for tasks they are not designed for.
Awareness:
Be aware of the specific hazards in the surrounding environment and the construction site.
Use additional personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, safety glasses and earmuffs as needed.

5. After use
Removing gloves:
Carefully remove gloves from the wrist to avoid contact with any contaminated areas.
If gloves are dirty or contaminated, avoid touching the outer surface with bare hands.

Cleaning and care:
Clean gloves according to the manufacturer's instructions. Some can be washed, while others need to be wiped.
Allow gloves to air dry thoroughly before storing or reusing.

Storage:
Store gloves in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and chemicals.
Make sure to store them in a way that prevents damage, such as in a designated glove box or compartment.

6. Regular inspection and replacement
Routine inspection:
Check gloves regularly for signs of wear.
Replace gloves that are damaged or no longer provide adequate protection.
